This event is a part of the world resources forum 2023. We are using many times more resources than the planet can sustainably provide. Without drastic and absolute reductions in the extraction and consumption of resources, especially by the rich countries of the global North, neither the climate crisis nor the extinction of species can be stopped, let alone tackled. Political measures have not led to a reduction in consumption, there is no reversal of the trend in sight. Global resource use has tripled since 1970, and a continuation of “business as usual” would mean that today’s resource use would double again by 2060.

The session will highlight the key facts and provide an opportunity for a discussion on the proposed actions with the experts and the audience.The agenda is as follows:

1. Keynote speeches / Lectures (2 x 15 min) on reducing resource use, the need for global targets, global equity and setting the legal framework
2. Presentation of global & national perspective (10min)
3. Presentation of BUND, EEB & FoEE positions and demands (10 min) – BREAK (10 min)
4. Moderated panel discussion (20 min) with questions from the audience (10 min)
